Except the opera, J. S. Bach took up
all the
musical styles and he excelled
in each of them.
The cantor function, that he fulfilled
in Leipzig from 1723 to 1750,
gave him the responsibility
of composing for the religious office.
The half of these works reached us
200 religious cantatas, 3
oratorios,
2 passions and 5 masses.
