Camille Saint-Saëns
(1835-1921)

Piano concerto No. 2, Opus 22

Composed in 3 weeks durant the Spring of 1868 for a performance programmed on the 13th of May of the same year, this Concerto surprises because of the multitude of its melodies. The Piano is the King, and the orchestra its humble servant. It starts this piece with a sovereign soliloquy, leads the debate, and keeps the final word. But the Piano of Saint-Saëns is not simply a talkative person, it is a storyteller.
