Jean-Marie Leclair
(1697-1764)
Sonata for Violin and continuous bass, Book IV No. 6
Jean-Marie Leclair the Elder (to distinguish him from his younger brother, a well-known violonist too), was one of the greatest violinists of his time. Unfortunately, the genius of this composer, which combines virtuosity with such a spontaneous melodic freshness, was obscured by oblivion. His fourth book of sonatas for violin and continuous bass dates back to 1738. |
