Ludwig van Beethoven
(1770-1827)

Sonata No. 29, Opus 106 “Hammerklavier”

Beethoven’s deafness got so much worse that he was obliged to communicate by means of conversation books. The end of the napoleonic domination on Europe liberates the nationalist minds. Beethoven demands the title of this favourite sonata, composed from 1817 to 1819, to appear in German. The editor Artaria will give in and publish two editions, one in French and the other in German: “Große Sonate für das Hammerklavier”.
