Ended on January 14th, 1785, this String Quartet is the last of the famous group of the 6 that he dedicated respectfully to his master Haydn. The following February 16th, his father Leopold wrote to his daughter: Haydn told me “Before God and as an honest man, I tell you that your son is the greatest composer that I know, personally or by name. He has taste and, what is even better, an incredible knowledge of composition.”
