Franz Schubert
(1797-1828)
String Quartet No. 14 “Death and the Maiden”, D 810
The most famous of the Schubert Quartets was composed in 1824, almost at the same time as the “Rosamunde” Quartet, D 804. Its name comes from the Lied (D 531, written in 1817), of which it states the initial theme in impassioned variations. |
