Luigi Boccherini
(1743-1805)
String Quintet, G 275
On top of the String Quartet, Boccherini invented the String Trio and Quintet. He wrote 113 works for this formation composed of 2 violins, 1 viola and 2 cellos. Mozart too will compose some gorgeous ones, but with 2 violas and a single cello. Quintet G 275, which comprises this illustrious minuet, dates back to 1771. |
