The Opus 52, published in 1825, is a volume of 7 chorale works taken from Walter Scott’s poem, The Lady of the Lake. The third Ellen’s song is nothing else but this marvellous hymn to the Virgin, whose accompaniment recalls the Bell Cantata BWV 53, attributed to J. S. Bach, but composed by Georg Melchior Hoffmann (1685-1715).
