Carl Philippe Emanuel Bach
(1714-1788)
Cello Concerto, Wq 172/H 439
Carl Philipp Emanuel is the 5th child and the most famous son of Johann Sebastian Bach. Before the influence of the Hamburg poets of the Sturm und Drang (torment and desire), he writes turbulent works tinged with Empfindsamkeit (sentimentality), like this pretty concerto with sparkling colours, a transcription of the harpsichord Concerto composed in 1753 (Wq 29 / H 437). |
