Curiously, Tartini had allowed in his manuscript this second slow movement which could take the place of the central movement. To add to the mystery, he had put in epigraph to this profound largo andante the following verse: “Flow, bitter tears, to the coast, to well-springs and to rivers, until my bitter anguish is consumed.”
