Sonata for 2 violins and continuous bass, Opus 1 No. 12 “La Follia”

 

 

Following the example of Corelli five years before, Vivaldi concluded his first opus by a series of variations on the air of la Folia. The difference lies in the contribution of a second violin, as an echo to the first in this excerpt. Beyond a new celebration of this theme, published in Venice in 1705, Vivaldi thus chose to enroll as an ambitious successor. Fully justified pretension with the Estro Armonico, his third opus, which will constitute in 1711 his first volume of Concertos...
