Antonio Vivaldi
(1678-1741)
Gloria, RV 589
Ordained priest in 1703, but exempted from the office for poor health, Vivaldi was master of violin in the Seminario musicale dell’Ospedale della Pietà. In 1713, he became choir master, probably in charge of the composition of the religious music. It is about this time that the ‘red priest’ composed this famous Gloria. |
